Victims belonged to same family; police hunt for driver who fled after collision near Toll Plaza

A young woman was killed and 11 others, including seven women and children, were injured after a speeding car rammed into a Suzuki pickup near the toll plaza on Shahrah-e-Bhutto in Karachi’s Korangi, causing the vehicle to overturn on Wednesday.
According to police and rescue officials, the pickup was travelling from Qayyumabad to Quaidabad when it was struck from behind by a speeding SUV near the toll plaza. The impact caused the pickup to overturn, leaving its passengers injured.
Rescue workers took the injured to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC). Edhi officials identified the deceased as 20-year-old Rameen, the daughter of Lalu.

The injured were identified as Hina, 8; Asha, 12; Kashi, 13; Dhani, 16; Shamo, 25; Ashu, 30; Kashi, 37; Lakshmi, 40; Tulsia, 45; and Lalu, 57. The identity of another woman, believed to be around 50 years old and critically injured, could not immediately be established.
Korangi Industrial Area Station House Officer Hukum Dad said the victims, believed to be members of the same family, were travelling in the pickup when it was hit by the speeding vehicle from behind.
He said the driver of the car fled the scene after the crash. Police have taken both vehicles into custody and moved them to the police station. Efforts are underway to trace the absconding driver, while further investigation is in progress.
Earlier in May, Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari inaugurated the 39-kilometre signal-free corridor linking Qayyumabad with the M-9 Motorway and laid the foundation stone for the Qayyumabad Corridor project connecting Karachi Port.
The newly inaugurated Expressway stretches approximately 39 kilometres from Jam Sadiq Bridge to Kathore Bridge.
It has been developed as a six-lane controlled-access corridor with a speed limit of 100 kilometres per hour. The project includes six interchanges, two main toll plazas, five weigh stations, and an underpass, and has been completed at a total cost of Rs54.814 billion.
