ISLAMABAD:
Following the recent fire, which killed 14 newborns, at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) nursery, the Islamabad Healthcare Regulatory Authority (IHRA) has ordered healthcare facilities across the capital to review their fire and life-safety arrangements.
In a letter issued to healthcare facilities, the IHRA directed them to reassess their fire and life-protection systems and adopt measures in line with modern safety requirements to protect patients and staff.
Healthcare facilities have been instructed to obtain fire-safety no-objection certificates from the Capital Development Authority (CDA)’s Fire Department and ensure that registered contractors install fire-protection systems.
The facilities have further been directed to install fire-detection, alarm and suppression systems and ensure the availability and functionality of hydrants and fire extinguishers.
The authority further ordered healthcare facilities to ensure the availability and functionality of emergency exits.
