Shahid Kapoor reacts to hugging Kareena Kapoor at IIFA 2025: ‘It’s nothing new’

Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan were seen sharing a hug and interacting at the IIFA 2025 press conference in Jaipur, which sparked significant attention from fans.

The exchange quickly gained traction on social media, with many fans expressing their nostalgia for the duo’s past on-screen chemistry.

Speaking to the media on the green carpet of the IIFA Digital Awards, Shahid Kapoor responded to the public reaction, explaining that their interaction was nothing out of the ordinary.

“For us, it’s nothing new… aaj stage pe mile aur hum log idhar udhar milte rehte hain, but it’s totally normal for us… if people felt nice, it’s nice,” Shahid said, clarifying that they have frequent encounters and there is no awkwardness between them.

This was not the first public encounter between Shahid and Kareena since their breakup in 2007. At the 2024 Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival Awards, Kareena walked past Shahid without acknowledging him, though Shahid maintained a composed smile throughout the brief moment.

The pair’s relationship in the 2000s, followed by their breakup, was widely covered in the media. They starred in several films together, including Fida (2004), Jab We Met (2007), and Chup Chup Ke (2006).

Following their separation, Kareena married Saif Ali Khan in 2012 and has two children, while Shahid married Mira Rajput in 2015 and has two children as well.

Their interaction at IIFA 2025 surprised many, with fans noting the comfortable and cordial nature of their exchange. Social media reactions included comments like, “Back during Udta Punjab days they couldn’t even stand together, it took them like 9 years to get to this point!”

The reunion at IIFA also prompted discussions about their iconic roles as Geet and Aditya in Jab We Met, which remains a significant part of their careers.
