Islamabad police have released Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), after dropping charges against him, sources said on Tuesday.
Gohar was among several PTI leaders, including MNA Sher Afzal Marwat, who were arrested by the police the previous day. The arrests followed a raid inside the Parliament House, where multiple PTI members were taken into custody.
National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has taken notice of the arrests and decided to take strict action. He has ordered the production of all detained members, issuing production orders for their immediate release.
The speaker summoned the Inspector General (IG) of Islamabad, along with other senior police officials, to the Parliament House.
In response, the IG was instructed to release all members not named in the FIR and submit a report on the incidents that occurred during the raid.
The arrests took place over violations during PTI’s rally in Islamabad on Sunday.
The violations include disrupting the agreed route, breaching commitments, attacking Islamabad police, exceeding permitted timings, and delivering anti-state speeches.
