Authorities have decided to keep compressed natural gas (CNG) stations in Peshawar closed until January 31 due to low gas pressure.

The Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Peshawar issued a notification extending the closure by 11 more days to ensure an uninterrupted gas supply to domestic consumers amid the cold weather, Express News reported.

The move comes as residents face challenges in accessing gas for household use, with demand surging during winter.

Meanwhile, CNG station owners have raised concerns about increased operational costs, citing higher sales tax and generator expenses. The association has assured efforts to resolve these issues.

Few days ago, in Peshawar, a ban was imposed on opening CNG stations under Section 144 due to a decrease in Sui gas pressure as the stations will remain closed until January 19.

According to a notification issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Peshawar, domestic consumers are facing difficulties due to reduced gas pressure.

To ensure adequate gas supply for households, a ban has been placed on CNG stations in the city.

Under Section 144, opening CNG stations will be prohibited, and any violations will lead to legal action.

As a result of the CNG station closures, rickshaw drivers have started using gas cylinders, leading to an increase in fare prices.

Additionally, the number of CNG-fueled vehicles on the roads has decreased due to the closures.
