A military officer embraced martyrdom, while 13 terrorists were eliminated in three overnight engagements, including the intelligence based operations (IBOs). in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement on Thursday.
The media wing of the military said that Major Muhammad Awais was martyred while leading his troops from the front during an IBO in the North Waziristan district. It added that other two engagements took place in South Waziristan and Bannu districts.
“On reported presence of Khwarij, an intelligence based operation was conducted by the Security Forces in general area Jani Khel, Bannu District. During the conduct of operation, own troops effectively engaged the khwarij location and resultantly, two Khwarij were sent to hell,” the ISPR said.
“Another intelligence based operation was conducted in North Waziristan District. In ensuing fire exchange, five Khwarij were effectively neutralised by security forces, while eight khwarij got injured,” the statement from the ISPR added.
“However, during intense exchange of fire, Major Muhammad Awais (age: 31 years, resident of District Narowal), a brave officer, who was leading his troops from the front, having fought gallantly, paid the ultimate sacrifice and embraced Shahadat.”
In a third encounter that took place in South Waziristan District, the ISPR stated, “own troops successfully neutralised six Khwarij, while eight khwarij were injured”. It added that sanitisation operations were being carried out to eliminate any other terrorist found in the area.
“The Security forces of Pakistan are determined to wipe-out the menace of terrorism and such sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthens our resolve,” the ISPR statement concluded.
Meanwhile, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in their separate statements, paid rich tributes to Major Muhammad Awais Shaheed and praised the bravery of the security forces for eliminating 13 terrorists in the successful operations in K-P.
The president said that Major Muhammad Awais of the Pakistan Army embraced martyrdom while bravely countering the terrorists in North Waziristan. “The whole nation saluted martyred Major Awais and was determined to eradicate terrorism in all forms,” stated the prime minister.
The president expressed the determination “to continue actions against Fitna al-Khawarij till its complete elimination”, stressing that the whole nation was with the security forces in the war against terrorism. “Operations will continue against the menace of terrorism till its complete eradication.”
