Over 360 guests at a wedding reception in Lahore’s Johar Town were affected by severe food poisoning, with more than 200 people hospitalised, some in critical condition.
The incident took place at a private marquee in Satto Katla, where substandard food was allegedly served.
Sarfraz, a resident of Khayaban-e-Amin, had booked the marquee for his wedding ceremony.
According to initial reports, guests began experiencing nausea, vomiting, and severe stomach pain shortly after consuming the meal.
Emergency services were immediately alerted, and multiple ambulances transported the affected individuals to various hospitals across Lahore.
Health officials confirmed that nine patients were in critical condition at General Hospital Lahore. Another 27 guests were admitted to Raiwind Indus Hospital, while seven more were receiving treatment at the University of Lahore Hospital.
Kasur DHQ Hospital attended to over ten affected guests, and a total of 31 patients were treated at both private and public hospitals in Narowal.
In an interview with the media, Sarfraz accused the marquee management of serving “extremely poor quality and unhygienic food,” which led to the mass poisoning incident.
Local authorities have taken swift action, with food safety teams collecting samples from the affected food for testing.
Authorities have vowed to take strict action against those responsible if negligence is proven. An FIR has already been registered against the individuals accused of causing the mass food poisoning.
