The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government on Monday announced a welfare programme to provide Rs200,000 cash grants to brides during mass wedding events across the province. The initiative aims to support over 4,000 women and alleviate the financial burden of marriage.
The decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, which focused on social welfare initiatives, including the utilisation of Zakat and dowry funds. Senior officials, including the province’s social welfare minister and local commissioners, attended the meeting.
The provincial government plans to organise mass weddings at divisional and district levels, with all expenses covered by state funds. “Transparency will be ensured so only eligible beneficiaries receive support,” officials stated.
The meeting also addressed other welfare projects, including the establishment of permanent funding for Panahgahs (shelter homes), distribution of wheelchairs for disabled students in higher education, and setting up old-age homes with recreational facilities.
The provincial government is also launching an “Orphan Card” scheme to provide Rs5,000 monthly to school-going orphans. A proposal for a “Ration Card” programme to support elderly widows with Rs5,000 per month is under review.
“These initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to uplifting underprivileged communities and aligning with the vision of a welfare state,” said CM Gandapur. He directed officials to finalise implementation plans within a week.
