Imran Khan, Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has formally accepted the resignation of Ali Amin Gandapur as the president of PTI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P).
Gandapur’s resignation, which was submitted as per the directives of PTI’s founder, was approved by Imran Khan.
This move comes just days after Gandapur was replaced by Junaid Akbar as the new president of PTI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The decision to remove Gandapur from his leadership position follows significant political developments.
On Saturday, PTI’s founder Imran Khan relieved his close confidante and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister, Ali Amin Gandapur, from the role of party president, appointing Junaid Akbar Khan as his successor.
The change was announced by PTI Secretary General Barrister Salman Akram Raja and is seen as part of PTI’s broader political strategy amid ongoing negotiations with the ruling PML-N coalition.
Junaid Akbar’s nomination as PTI K-P president came shortly after he was elected unopposed as the Chairman of the National Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC), filling a position that had been vacant since the February 2024 general elections.
Though there had been rumors regarding the potential replacement of Gandapur as Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, sources indicate that the matter was not raised during Gandapur’s recent meeting with Imran Khan.
The meeting, which took place at Adiala Jail on Monday, sparked significant political attention.
According to sources, the two leaders discussed various matters, including ongoing development projects and the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The meeting lasted for about an hour, after which Gandapur left for Islamabad without addressing the media.
The discussions between the two have raised speculation about their potential impact on both the political landscape of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the broader national context.
As PTI continues to navigate complex political dynamics, the reshuffling of leadership in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa represents a key development that may influence the party’s future strategy in the region.
