A fire broke out at an illegal petrol pump in Karachi’s Shah Faisal Colony area on Wednesday, trapping dozens of residents inside a building, Express News reported.

The petrol pump, reportedly operating unlawfully beneath a residential building, posed a significant danger to those living above. The fire quickly spread, leaving several people stranded inside as the building filled with smoke.

Rescue teams are currently attempting to evacuate those trapped, but efforts are being hampered by thick smoke. “The operation is challenging due to the smoke, but we are working to get everyone out safely,” a rescue official stated.

One unit of the fire department has arrived at the scene, with more fire tenders dispatched to help control the blaze. Several motorcycles parked outside the petrol pump were also engulfed in flames.

Efforts to bring the fire under control and safely evacuate the building are ongoing.
