The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has removed three political parties from its list of registered entities due to their failure to conduct intra-party elections, as required by law.

According to an official notification, the Pakistan National Party (PNP), National Democratic Party (NDP), and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Nizam (PTN) have been delisted for not holding elections within the prescribed timeframe.

The move comes as part of the ECP’s efforts to enforce the Political Parties Order of 2002, which mandates that all political parties in Pakistan conduct regular intra-party elections to ensure democratic practices and accountability.

In a contrasting development, the ECP has recognized Tehreek-e-Suba Hazara Pakistan (TSHP) as a registered political party, following the successful completion of its intra-party elections in November 2024.

Additionally, last week, the ECP also enlisted Awaam Pakistan (AP), after the party held its intra-party elections in June 2024.

Awaam Pakistan, formed by former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and former Finance Minister Miftah Ismail, will be led by Abbasi as president and Ismail as secretary general. Both leaders had previously been associated with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), but left the party after differences with its leadership.
