At least 10 people, including police and Balochistan Levies personnel, were killed in a gun attack in Kalat, police said on Monday.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dostin Dashti confirmed that those killed included a police sub-inspector, four Levies personnel, and five civilians.
The attackers fled the area, and police have launched a clearance operation.
The police reported that the exchange of fire between police and armed assailants began on Sunday night along Kalat’s national highway and continued into the city.
Kalat Assistant Commissioner Aftab Ahmed and a Levies officer were injured in the attack.
Levies officials stated that the injured officer was taken to hospital, while Kalat Commissioner Naeem Bazai reported that Ahmed’s condition is stable.
Security sources said that terrorists carried out multiple attacks across Balochistan on the night of August 24-25.
In response, security forces and law enforcement agencies killed 12 militants and injured several others. The operation will continue until all attackers are neutralised, the sources added.
