Hidayat-ur-Rehman, a member of the Balochistan Assembly and a leader of Jamaat-e-Islami, announced his decision to sever ties with the provincial government led by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).

In a press conference held in Quetta on Sunday, Rehman declared his departure from the provincial government, stating that he will join the opposition benches starting tomorrow. He emphasised that he would demonstrate what effective opposition entails.

Rehman called for the recovery and public disclosure of missing persons, asserting that holding rallies is a constitutional right of every political party. He questioned the government’s intent behind restricting political rights from the people.

Criticising the provincial government, he condemned the suspension of mobile services and road closures. He also expressed concern over recent violence in Gwadar, urging the resolution of issues through dialogue rather than violence against mothers and sisters.

The JI leader clarified that his support for the chief minister was not driven by a desire for personal benefits or privileges.
