Pakistan are well into their chase of the 321 target set by New Zealand in the opening match of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Champions Trophy tournament at the National Stadium in Karachi.


Match summary by Abyan Amir: After 40 overs, New Zealand are in control with 125 runs needed in the last 10 overs. Pakistan must be ruing the 114 runs they had given away earlier in the last 10 overs of the New Zealand innings.

By losing the big wicket of Babar, Pakistan’s chase suffered its biggest blow yet when he top-edged a sweep off Santner after scoring a slow 64 of 90 balls.

Khushdil and Shaheen were trying to up the run rate with their partnership of 45 so far but they have a mamoth task ahead of them with no signs of dew so far.

Abrar drew first blood after he dismissed Conway on the third delivery of his second over as the change from the skipper bore fruit. After losing the hosting rights to the 2009 Champions Trophy, Pakistan was also ruled out as co-hosts of the 2011 World Cup.

All seven teams, except India, will play in Pakistan for the current event in the three major cities.
