LAHORE:

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has formally sought permission to hold a public gathering at Minar-e-Pakistan on February 8, marking a “Black Day” following the collapse of negotiations with the coalition government.

The party submitted an application to the deputy commissioner’s office, requesting official approval for the event at Iqbal Park.

According to the application, a copy of which was obtained by The Express Tribune, the gathering would be led by PTI leader and Opposition Leader in the Punjab Assembly Malik Ahmad Khan Bachar and Ali Ijaz Buttar.

Addressing the media outside the DC office, PTI leader Aliya Hamza reiterated the party’s demand, stating: “We sought permission to observe ‘Youm-e-Siyah [Black Day]’ on February 8—the day when the public mandate was stolen [one year ago].”

She referred to the 2024 general elections, in which PTI-backed independent candidates secured the highest number of seats but were unable to form a government.
