Pakistan and Bangladesh reach agreement to boost cooperation

Principal Staff Officer of Bangladesh armed forces division Lieutenant General, S.M. Kamrul Hassan, has called on Defence Secretary, retired Lieutenant General Muhammad Ali in Rawalpindi.

The discussion was focused on expanding bilateral defence collaboration covering all domains.

Speaking on the occasion, Defence Secretary said Pakistan greatly values its relations with Bangladesh.

The visiting dignitary expressed Bangladesh’s aspiration for vibrant days of cooperation between two countries.

Both sides expressed satisfaction over ongoing collaboration between two countries and aimed at strengthening the cooperation in mutually beneficial fields.

Earlier, a top Bangladeshi military official, Lt-Gen S M Kamr-ul-Hassan, visited Pakistan on Tuesday, marking a rare visit by a senior Bangladeshi general.

He visited the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, where he met with Pakistan’s military leadership, including Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir and Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Sahir Shamshad Mirza.

The visit signals a thaw in bilateral ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh, which had been strained during the 15-year rule of Sheikh Hasina.

Since Hasina’s ouster in August, ties have improved, with both nations increasing their diplomatic and military engagements.

The meetings focused on evolving regional security dynamics, enhancing military cooperation, and strengthening defense relations.

Both sides emphasized the importance of a resilient defense partnership and joint efforts for regional peace and stability.

Lt-Gen Hassan praised Pakistan’s military for its professionalism and sacrifices in the fight against terrorism, further underscoring the growing cooperation between the two countries.
