BAHAWALNAGAR: The B-Division police have registered a case against 10 people, including a lawyer, for allegedly honey-trapping a cop, filming him in a compromised situation, and extorting money from him by threatening to upload his videos on social media in the Model Town area.
Police claimed that the gang had been active for many years and had extorted millions of rupees from innocent citizens across the district through honey-trapping and blackmailing.
The FIR registered with B Division police on Dec 21 stated that a few days ago, two girls from Bahawalnagar city befriended a man from Jodhika village on his mobile phone and invited him to visit their residence in Model Town on Dec 12.
As soon as the man arrived at the residence at about 6pm, the duo started making out with him. During this, the girls took off their clothes and started making videos of the guest. Meanwhile, eight people who were hiding in the room grabbed the guest and started thrashing him.
During the violence, the suspects took Rs50,000, a mobile phone and an ATM card from him and withdrew money using his ATM card.
Threatening to post the indecent videos of the incident on social media, the gang members demanded Rs200,000 from him. They gave the guest an ultimatum of two days and let him go on the condition that he would not mention the matter to anyone; otherwise, they would file a rape case against him.
The FIR further stated that the 10-member honey-trap gang had blackmailed several people using inappropriate videos and extorted hundreds of millions of rupees.
A police official, requesting anonymity, told Dawn that the gang members had the backing of a few lawyers and police officials from several police stations across the district, including Minchinabad, Bahawalnagar City A and B Divisions, Chishtian City A Division, Dunga Bunga, and Fort Abbas, enabling them to continue their honey-trapping for years without fear.
The official claimed that the young victim of the gang is a police official in Lahore.
