Pushpa 2: The Rule’s remarkable feats across the box office seem to touch no limits; the action-thriller film is still bagging monetary numbers, and has collected a total of 1508 crore INR worldwide. Despite turning two weeks old, the Sukumar film has earned 17.75 crore INR on its fifteenth day with domestic units rising up to a booming 990.7 crore INR, as per The Indian Express.
Originally made in Telugu, the multi-language release has become a bigger hit through its Hindi counterpart. Its success surpassed even that of the noteworthy Stree 2, which is a Hindi-language feature.
According to The Indian Express, Pushpa 2: The Rule has become the third highest grosser of all time in Indian cinema. Total occupancy figures across hundreds of cinemas also ranged between a high 17 per cent to a strong 19 per cent, accounting for the interest of local audiences in the film.
Serving as a sequel to the 2021 film Pushpa: The Rise, the 2024 continuation focuses on the violent conflict between Pushpa and Bhanwar Singh, promising an “epic conclusion” to their rivalry, as teased by the synopsis.
However, Pushpa 2: The Rule has been the talk of the town for reasons beyond creative excellence. In early December, cast leader Allu Arjun was arrested from his home in connection with the death of a woman caused by a violent stampede during a film screening, as per Hindustan Times.
Indian film director and screenwriter Ram Gopal Varma recently came forward to defend the star, urging peers on social media to rally in support of Arjun.
“Every star should strongly protest against [Allu Arjun’s] arrest because for any celebrity, whether it’s a film star or political star, is it a crime for them to be enormously popular?” posed Varma on X. “3 people died among the thousands who came to see Sridevi in the shooting of my film Kshana Kshanam. So, will the Telangana Police now go to heaven to arrest Sridevi?”
