The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Immigration department foiled an attempt by a passenger to illegally travel abroad at Karachi Airport, arresting the suspect who subsequently exposed a human trafficking network.
According to a statement from the FIA, the agency intercepted a passenger, identified as Saddam Hussain, who was attempting to travel to Morocco on a visit visa. The passenger was offloaded after suspicious information came to light during immigration checks.
Further investigation revealed that Hussain had intended to illegally cross the border from Morocco and reach Spain and Italy. During questioning, he disclosed that he had obtained the Moroccan visa through an agent named Naveed from Sheikhupura, paying him 800,000 rupees in cash.
The FIA also uncovered Hussain’s communication with two human traffickers, Jabbar and Qari Amjad, via WhatsApp. According to the agency, Qari Amjad is involved in smuggling people to Europe through illegal “Dunki” routes and sea crossings.
Hussain revealed that he had paid 2,000 euros to Amjad and had agreed to pay an additional 13,000 euros after reaching Spain and Italy.
The FIA’s statement noted that Qari Amjad, who is based abroad, is a key figure in this trafficking ring and has reportedly extorted large sums from several people under the pretense of sending them to Europe illegally.
The suspect has been handed over to the Anti-Human Trafficking Circle in Karachi, and authorities are expected to make further arrests based on Hussain’s disclosures.
