Hideo Kojima’s Physint is moving from PlayStation to Xbox, with partnership also expanding into film and TV

Hideo Kojima’s upcoming action-espionage game Physint has moved from PlayStation to Xbox after PlayStation Studios cancelled its collaboration with Kojima Productions on the project.

Xbox announced the expanded partnership with Kojima Productions on Wednesday, confirming that Microsoft will publish Physint.

The agreement will also extend beyond games, with Xbox and Kojima Productions planning to collaborate on film and television projects.

Kojima said PlayStation notified the studio in mid-June that it would cancel Physint. He said Kojima Productions spent the following three months looking for a new publishing partner before reaching an agreement with Xbox.

“As confirmed earlier through our official channels, in mid-June of this year, we unexpectedly received notice from PlayStation Studios that they would cancel the PHYSINT project,” Kojima wrote.

“PHYSINT is an important project both to me personally and to KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS. Determined to keep the project alive, we have spent the last three months searching tirelessly for a new partner.”

He added, “Please rest assured that development of PHYSINT, our genre-defining action-espionage title, is ongoing and will continue moving forward.”

PlayStation said it remained supportive of Kojima and his studio despite ending the collaboration.

“After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to step away from collaborating with KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS on its project PHYSINT. We continue to have great admiration for Hideo Kojima’s vision for the game.”

Xbox is already set to publish Kojima Productions’ OD, a horror game made with Jordan Peele, although it does not yet have a release date. Physint will follow OD as Kojima’s next project.

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma said the company was “honored that Kojima-san has chosen Xbox to work with Kojima Productions on ‘Physint.’”
