Eight people were killed and two others injured in an armed clash between two groups of the Chandio community over a longstanding feud in the katcha area of Dadu, police said on Sunday.
The firing took place in village Sheikh Gulab, within the limits of Jalhu police station, police said.
Following the incident, a heavy contingent of police was dispatched to the area on the directives of Dadu SSP retired Capt Saddam Hussain Khaskheli. Police cordoned off the area and brought the situation under control.
Khaskheli described the incident as a result of an old personal enmity. He said weapons used in the incident had been recovered and police were conducting raids to apprehend those involved.

He said the eight people killed in the firing were identified as Fida Hussain, Zulfiqar alias Watni, Mohammad Bachal, Sultan, Manzoor, Irshad alias Hajin, Gulbahar and Didar Chandio.
Khaskheli added that two other people, Ghulam Qadir Chandio and Mumtaz Chandio, were injured and shifted to hospital after being rescued from the scene. The bodies of the deceased were also taken to hospital for the required legal formalities.
Hyderabad DIG Tariq Razzaq Khan Dharejo and the Dadu SSP directed a heavy police contingent to remain deployed in the area. Police said the area had been cordoned off and the situation brought under control.
Further action was underway, with police saying strict legal action would be taken against those involved in the incident.
Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah took notice of the killings in village Dano Chandio in Dadu and expressed grief over the loss of lives and sympathy with the bereaved families.
He sought a report from the inspector general of police and ordered immediate investigations into the incident and the arrest of those responsible.
“Law cannot be allowed to be taken into one’s own hands. The culprits must be brought to justice at all costs,” Shah said while directing the police to ensure indiscriminate action against all those involved.

Separately, Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar also took notice of the clash between the two groups and sought an immediate report from the Hyderabad DIG.
He directed the police to maintain law and order in the area and bring the situation under control.
Lanjar also directed authorities to ensure immediate medical treatment for the injured and hand over the bodies of the deceased to their heirs after completion of legal formalities.
