British pop sensation Charli XCX has been crowned Songwriter of the Year by the Brit Awards, marking a significant career milestone and positioning her as a front-runner for Saturday’s ceremony at London’s O2 Arena, BBC reported.

The recognition comes as the Brat singer leads this year’s nominations with five nods, including Best Artist, Album of the Year, Best Dance Act, Best Pop Artist, and Song of the Year for Guess, her collaboration with Billie Eilish.

With her artistic vision fully realised and critical acclaim firmly in hand, Charli XCX stands on the verge of a defining night at the Brits.

The award is a long-awaited first Brit win for Charli XCX, real name Charlotte Emma Aitchison, who has previously been nominated but never taken home a trophy. Her victory is especially notable following her 2023 criticism of the Brits for failing to nominate any female artists in the Best Artist category.

Her long-time collaborator AG Cook has also been honoured as Producer of the Year, reinforcing the creative vision behind Brat, which critics have hailed as “pop music for the future.” The record, with its neon-green aesthetic and viral dance trend tied to the track Apple, became a defining cultural moment of 2024, dubbed “Brat Summer.”

Charli XCX’s star power has soared over the past year, culminating in two Grammy wins for Best Dance Album and Best Packaging, as well as a headline-grabbing performance at the ceremony. However, despite her dominance at the Brits, she has opted not to perform at Saturday’s event.

The 2025 Brit Awards, hosted by comedian Jack Whitehall, will feature performances from Sam Fender, Sabrina Carpenter, The Last Dinner Party, and rising star Myles Smith, among others. Additional early winners include Sabrina Carpenter for Global Success and Myles Smith as this year’s Rising Star.
